professional basketball player. I even designed my own shoes and everything, but I never even made the JV team. Lots of people go to the NBA and don't make the JV team, yeah, they're called "Weekend Warriors." Then I wanted to become an icthyologist (a marine biologist that studies sharks). The problem is, sharks have this great sense of smell. Apparently they are attracted to urine, which is what I do every time I see one of the great hunters of the ocean. Then I wanted to be an astronomer. Well, my own desire to be a star outgrew my desire to study them. As my friend's father told me a long time ago, "If it takes thousands to millions of years for the light to get to earth, in essence, studying history, why bother? And we all know history is written by the winners. Damn represive stars, always keeping the brown dwarfs down.
Apparently universities like their students attending classes and studying. A 1.18 GPA is not considered a passing grade, whatever! At least I thought about going to class. Colorado University to this day tells friends that they kicked me out, but I like to say that I chose to leave. I returned home to study acting (aka work at a restaurant) As my confidence grew and I participated in some awesome independent films (student films), I decided to try my hand at stand up comedy.
With my new found confidence unleashed by rocking open mics all over the Bay Area and my slowly improving acting skills, I was able to get an agent, and start doing some serious acting. That's right, a graphic design school commercial airing in Utah and Colorado, and a self help video created to show guys the way into girls hearts and pants. But, as they say, it's not what you know, it's who you know.
I met another person that helped shape my career, Sammy Wegent, who invited me to work with the Seaside Repertory Theater, and perform in his improv troupe SPF 7. With the diligent help of Shari Carlson, Kurtis Matthews, Sammy, and my agent Mary, I have traveled to Washington, Arizona, Colorado, and Florida performing comedy, performed improv at festivals in Florida, Toronto, Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Chicago, been on national tv three times, and have now written my first film Background and a TV series for cell phones DMV (not out yet).
It just goes to show you that if you can stick around long enough, meet good people, and have awesome parents, you too can follow and fulfill your dreams. Show up for your life.
